Summary

This is the fourth and final volume of a study that includes the biographies of the general officers who held the post of governor of Sant Ferran Castle and Figueres Square, from 1793 to 1927: a total of forty-two.

In the period from 1902 to 1927, which deals with this volume, There were nine governors who succeeded each other in office. His biographies, which overlap and complement each other, offer us a very complete view of the last phase of the nineteenth century and the first phase of the twentieth century. All these soldiers served in the ranks of the Army from the first years of the Restoration and some also during the Revolutionary Six-Year Period: very decisive years in contemporary Spanish history.

Reading these similarities will provide a more human understanding of our history, more "on the ground", The avatars that passed the protagonists also passed them, and perhaps with less fortune, other thousands of soldiers, with or without gallons who were part of the armies in all time. In the same way, or even with more anxieties, these vicissitudes were experienced by their relatives and all citizens.

KIDNAPPING IN SANT FERRAN

Episodes of the Castle of Sant Ferran in Figueres #8 – 2021 Edition (Fiction episode)

Summary:

"The best indicator of future behaviour is the past and those who do not learn from it repeat it".
On December 17, 2019, the history of The Castle of Sant Ferran would change. This was the day that five friends had selected to carry out their project. The cultural event that was going to be held there that day was the perfect time to kidnap all attendees. While such an operation occurred, Dalí's museum suffered the theft of ten works by the artist from Figueras, which would serve as a guarantee for friends to successfully achieve what they proposed.
An intriguing and psychological plot, where friendship, justice and, above all, Abel's personal growth will fight against Elsa, her partner and deputy inspector of the Police Station of the Mossos d'Esquadra in Figueres. She, who has a dubious ethical past, will be responsible for making the operation of the five friends a failure. Will he make it?.
A thrilling story, in which Abel continually questions his deteriorating life existence, and in which the friendship between the three friends and their partners will captivate you to the end.
"The best fighter wins without violence. The muscle's dead.'

Summary:

The men, whose facts are told in this book, lived through the passionate years that go from the French Revolution that ended with the Old Regime, to the Bourgeois Revolution that led to the Liberal State. The complicated circumstances experienced by the Spanish nation float all the time while the West, tired of the Enlightenment, was enthusiastic about the values brought by Romanticism.
The permanence in the office of governor of Sant Ferran was generally short-lived, although those who exercised it left their mark on their passage. This work aims to bring the memory of these people and the memory of the Figueres of their time, to all those who know and want to preserve them, memories that are turned off under the ashes of the years that pass.

THE CASTLE OF SANT FERRAN AND SIMONET

Episodes of the Castle of Sant Ferran in Figueres #6 – 2019 Edition

Josep Puig i Badosa, "The Castle of Sant Ferran and Simonet". Edited by Amics del Castell de S. Ferdinand. ISBN 978-84-09-16476-

Summary:

Thanks to the family archives, the local chroniclers of the time and the press, this character has been shed that almost went unnoticed. While it is true that there are small reviews of him, they are not enough to assess the total delivery of the country as is reflected in The Castle of Sant Ferran and Simonet. After the construction of the fortress of the Castle of Sant Ferran in Figueres, he is immersed in a series of wars in which Simonet, like many others, found himself involved.
Simonet was a brave garriguella man who began as a guerrilla captain in the French War (1808–1814) and always fought on the front line. He was in the most risky feats and also in his beloved Castle of Sant Ferran, where he will be promoted to colonel. After the war he continued in the professional army in different destinations, being investigated and eventually separated from active service.
But with the arrival of Isabel II he returned to the army, with the mission of creating the national militia and the battalion of frank volunteers in Figueres and the region. He participated fully in the First Carlinada (1833-1840). In addition, for a time he will be governor of the Castle of Sant Ferran in Figueres.
Joan Ribau i Trull, alias simonet (1883-1854), lived in first person many of the events that occurred in the Castle of Sant Ferran and l'Empordà and demonstrated with his good work that he was a great patriot and a strong defender of the Castle of Sant Ferran.

Antonio Herrera López de la Cova (coordinator), "The Castle of Sant Ferran. A natural environment and four characters". Edited by Amics del Castell de S. Ferdinand. ISBN 978-84-697-5681-2

Summary:

The Friends of the Castle of Sant Ferran de Figueres publish a new book of the series "Episodes del Castell", and this one from a more extensive point of view and with new intensities: we continue with characters linked to our Castle because the human history of this fortress is as extensive as it is interesting, and now we add a documented study-commentary of its natural and landscape environment.
We appreciate, as always, the collaboration and help of the Consortium and the institutions, we appreciate the selfless work of the authors who, with their knowledge and work, are the ones who help us to know better this heritage from Figueras and Empordà.
That this knowledge and this work are, once again, for the benefit of the best knowledge and, therefore, better evaluation and appreciation of all those who make up this great family of friends of our Castle and its history.

Summary:

This volume tells a fantastic story, exciting and unique, that happened in Figueres and alt Empordà. An episode of the Civil War and the immediate post-war, which has as protagonists the Castle of Sant Ferran and peralada, the Canta Mine of La Vajol and the Barefoot Farmhouse of Darnius, with a few almost anonymous heroes and some spectators of exception such as Goya, Velázquez, Rubens and Tiziano. In the context of a fractious war, with this extraordinary history, its most humane, sensitive and courageous side is shown.
