This Friday, October 16, 2020 at 11 a.m., the project “Friends of the Castle of Sant Ferran” was presented at the Amics del Castell de Sant Ferran headquarters.
The premises of the headquarters were prepared with all the measures of the health authorities, assistance control, hand washing, masks and safety distance.
The president, César Barrenechea, welcomed the attendees. He then explained that the statutes of the association, in Article 3 on its purposes, says that this fantastic fortress must be made known. He listed some of the activities that are normally carried out: exhibitions, presentations, conferences, publication of a book every year, international pétanque competitions and the appointment of the character of the year. He then said the association has more and more followers on social media such as Instagram and Facebook, with thousands of followers, apart from its own website. He also commented that they intend to attract young people and have more links with the Castles and to do this, this award for high school research work has been created.
Then he gave the word to the vice president and head of culture, Fede Luque, who explained some details of this project. The vice-president explains that the association Amics del Castell de Sant Ferran also wants to participate in teaching with a baccalaureate award that will allow to study and make known better the fortress with the largest bastions in Europe. He also commented that the objective of this type of research work is not exclusively to study the historical facts, military or not, that occurred in the Castle but also to study any other point of view or knowledge such as social, anthropological, cultural, tourist, architectural or technological, which will give a further boost to the promotion of our heritage.
3 prizes will be given, one of € 300 and two of € 150 and will be complemented with packs of visits to the “water cathedral” of the Castle and with souvenir gifts.
The president and vice-president thanked Culture of the Figueres City Council and the Castell Consortium for the enthusiasm and collaboration in this project, and encourage all students, from all public and private centers, to choose the Castle of Sant Ferran as a reference point for their research.

COLLECTION EXHIBITION TEACHING "BREAKING THE SILENCE"

Curator: Enric Puigsegur

Since March this year our association has not been able to carry out any of the scheduled activities due to the circumstances caused by Covid-19. In an attempt to adapt to all the regulations and recommendations of the authorities, we have scheduled an exhibition of artists in accordance with the Diversit-ART group. The works of the 30 participating artists are exhibited throughout the month of October in our exhibition hall and will be complemented by a smaller exhibition in the canteen of the entrance of the Fortress.
The visits will be guided and in small groups of 6 people, according to the current rules and recommendations. The inauguration was held on Friday, October 2, meeting the requirements of maximum capacity, mask, safety distance and clean hands. Our president, César Barrenechea, gave a small welcome speech, the vice president and head of culture, Fede Luque, thanked on behalf of the association for all the participating artists and the curator of the exhibition, Enric Puigsegur, thanked our association for the facilities we gave. Then the artist Angeline performed with a small repertoire of lyrical songs and Enric Puigsegur performed with his inseparable musical instrument.
